Intuitive! This book delivers a very clear intuition of the products with only the necessary quantitative tools. I came from a quantitative background. During my studies at school, it was all about math and we didn't talk a lot about the intuition of the products or how the products work. I was looking for a book to bridge the gap and this book does this job very well. Thank you Siddhartha for sharing and putting all these together!!

Simon G. Brown has been practicing a macrobiotic lifestyle for nearly 25 years. In the mid-1980s, Brown studied under Mishio Kushi in Philadelphia and assisted him with consultations. He became a proponent of macrobiotics after meeting its founder, George Ohsawa, in Japan in 1945. In the early 1960s Kushi and his wife Aveline founded Erewhon, the first natural food company in the US. In 1971 Kushi and his students founded the East West Journal and later the East West Foundation, for macrobiotic teaching and research. In 1978, Michio and Aveline founded the Kushi Institute, an educational organization with centers throughout America and Europe. Kushi's seminars and lectures have attracted thousands of health care professionals and other supporters. His life and teachings have been written about in Life, Paris-Match, Interview, and other publications. One of the better books on Macrobiotics and probably the most practical. I was cured of Endometriosis with a Macrobiotic Healing Diet which was stricter and didnt allow any flesh at all, just beans, rice, yellow vegetable, green vegetable, Bancha tea. It worked but was pretty hard to follow with a family or for a long time. I was on it a year but had results after 3 months. This book sounds practical and close to what Macrobiotics teaches. I read two other Cookbooks on Amazon that were supposed to be Macrobiotic but were in very high in fat, coconut oil no less, high in flour, used a lot of eggs, cheese and allowed what I would consider a high saturated fat junk food diet. They were not Macrobiotic which in essence is eat whole foods as they come out of the ground.

This was my first macrobiotic cook book and it has been my 'go to' book every since. It got me started with informative explanations and great ideas for updating my pantry. I 'jazz' up the recipes with other ingrediants from the book to suit my taste and it's simply great. I've had it a couple of years now and have lost 26lbs, found that exercising is easier when you have a happy body, no more high blood pressure, cholesterol is perfect, I sleep well, my brain works better, and on and on. So very cool.

This book is good for beginners. Those looking for recipes then this isn't the book. A majority of the book is devoted to concepts of the macrobiotic diet with a small section for recipes.It would be good if Amazon had a "Look Inside" section for their mobile app.

I purchased this book after my doctor recommended I look into a macrobiotic diet to help balance my hormones. I spent time at a macrobiotic restaurant that has a small collection of books that they sell first, browsing through the various options. This one really jumped out at me, for a couple of reasons:1) I did not grow up cooking American or European food. I learned how to cook based on Indian cuisine, and that is the type of food my family and I eat at home most of the time. This book teaches you the principles of macrobiotic cooking in such a way that you can adopt it to whatever cuisine is most familiar and comfortable for you. It's made it easier for me to adapt to this way of eating, since the flavor of my food is satisfying, but the content of it is better for me.2) I liked out way information about macrobiotics was presented. The layout of the information is very clean and easy to understand. Symbols for the different qualities of food make it easy to remember the principles, and it's much easier to absorb the material when you don't have to read textbook-like pages.3) The pictures of the food are appealing. At the end of the day, it's a cookbook and I want to feel like the food I make is going to be appetizing and presentable.4) Simon Brown's writing style is educational, warm and inviting. I think anyone who reads this book as an introduction to macrobiotics will get a good start, and will certainly learn enough to be dangerous.I'm really happy I got it, and I'm even happier that I am using the principles and recipes in the book. My husband is eating this way with me, and he's not going hungry, and neither am I. In fact, I started feeling better after 3 days, which is so encouraging. I think this is a must read for anyone who wants to learn the principles of macrobiotics and wants a simple way to enhance their diet, especially if you don't want to feel pressured or overwhelmed or intimidated.Enjoy!P.S. A beautiful book, with engaging photographs, intelligent information, and, best of all, very rewarding recipes, all merging together to give the reader a healing and joyously appealing approach to a very diverse and often stringent lifestyle.Macrobiotics can be so utterly daunting, so conservative, unbending, and foreign, that we often throw the baby out with the bath water. I love this book! It's an excellent discussion of Canadian cuisine, taking a fairly novel approach. I had never really thought of Canada as having its own cuisine, but the author makes a compelling argument for understanding Canadian cuisine as a creole defined by its properties, rather than by specific recipes. This is a solid academic text, but it's very readable and not at all dry, and the author shares lots of stories. I really enjoyed reading it.

Excellent book and a delightful read for this expat. It was a taste of home! Clearly well researched and thoroughly interesting, it's an excellent exploration of what it means to have a Canadian food culture and what it looks like from coast to coast.

This is probably the best books I have read . I felt like I was right there as part of the events as I was reading. It is the story of love, hope, faith, and courage of a family and some true friends who put themselves in harmes way to do what they knew was right. The Halocaust should always be remembered. It is one example of bullying at it's worst. I am blessed to have met the man who wrote the story of his family's survival. His lovely wife was very supportive and helpful in researching the history.

despite the fact i knew the main people survived, i had met them, i still found myself repeating "please escape and live" over and over again. i found it very difficult to put down. this isn't just a love story between a man and woman, but a love story of a child with his parents. they were able to teach him so much. lessons that would be great for all of us to learn. survival instincts. nicely done.

This was a very good book. We live 25 miles from where the family opened Dixie Dog restaurant. I love reading about people's lives and how they made it through hardships. It is inspiring.

One of the most eye opening books I've ever read and it touched me deeply. The things they endured are beyond anything I could even imagine. I will never complain about any conditions in my life again.

Excellent! This is a real account of life in this time. It's words are a vivid depiction of what went on in this tragic time. Grateful that this is in writing for future generations. May history never repeat itself.

This is a very good book, especially for the reader who is interested in that time in history. It was heartbreaking to learn of all the horrors these gentle people had to endure at the hands of the Nazis, but inner strength, love, and faith helped them to survive.

I didn't make it through the preface before I knew this book would make a difference. This tastefully written account shares the horrors of one of humanity's darkest nights in a striking, personal manner. Well done and thought- provoking.

If you are reading this review, you probably already know that this book is an outstanding text on statistical mechanics. It is advanced, thorough, thought provoking, and will make you a pro once you manage to go through the whole thing.That said, you must be aware that the book being sold as new is a mediocre digital reprint that roughly amounts to a laser printing of the scanned originals, in a poor paper with faint typography that tires the eyes and a pathetic white cover in a feeble (magazine-like) paper. It looks like you have printed it in your shabby deskjet...So, if you can buy a used copy of the original edition, do it. Do not bother to buy this digitally reprinted book because its quality, durability, etc. really suck.

An interesting approach to statistical mechanics. Deep in places, but not especially mathematically rigorous. Lots of food for thought.

One of the best books about statistical mechanics ever written. The style, typical of Chinese high society, consists of very straightforward statements, followed by a neat logical explanation. Statistical mechanics is a difficult subject. This is to my advise the best book to study it from.The target audience of this book are graduate students with basic physics knowledge. Easy to read, yet extremely rigorous.I put 4 stars as the quality of the printing is well below expectations.
