WOW. This is clearly an illegitimate, pirate-edition text.The cover art is EXTREMELY pixelated, clearly put together cheaply and crappily. See photo. The back cover doesn't have ANYTHING on it except a paled-out version of the front cover, and a barcode.It doesn't even have a title page with the most basic information. No copyright notice, no ISBN or printing/edition info, no publisher’s address, the year the book was published, and the Library of Congress Catalogue information. This book doesn't even list the PUBLISHER! If you want this book for any research purposes, you won't be able to CITE it. Unbelievable.I just got it in the mail five minutes ago, so I can't speak to the content, but I can tell you this: The book is ENTIRELY printed with one font size (which, again, is small), and very little formatting efforts made to assist the reader. Everything is single spaced, with a single line between paragraphs. This even holds true when a new chapter begins! This book could really not be formatted any worse. See the photo of the open book.Amazon, you should NOT be selling this particular edition!
Mark Twain described a classic as "a book that everyone talks about but no one reads". I hope this book does not gather dust on an abandoned shelf in some basement. Take it and read; it is rich with history and a chronicle of the atrocities visited on many believers and how so many withstood trial by fire. I recommend it for all believers for it will reinvigorate your steadfastness.
I've just started reading this book and I know that it's going to change my life. I am so thankful the accounts of precious lives of my brothers and sisters in Christ being recorded and in one book.I appreciate the accuracy of the retelling of their stories. I also appreciate the amount of work the editor put into this book to make it easier to read (language-wise) and for updating it so it includes modern-day accounts of incredible believers.Incredibly encouraging, heartbreaking, and sobering. Every Christian really needs to read this.
This is in old english and very hard to read. I ended up ordering... Foxe's Book of Martyrs (Pure Gold Classics) Paperback – November 1, 2001... instead. Much easier version, modern day english. I included a picture of the more readable version.
Foxe's Book of Martyrs is a great book, but this is an edited version that does not always follow the original. This edition is much more difficult to read than many others available.
Besides the Bible, this is one of the classics of the Christian Faith. If you love Christ and His people, you'll find yourself praying for the Martyrs.They are still out there, and we will be. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Faith. God bless our persecuted brethren!
I confess that I have not read the complete book. Reading about so many Christians martyred in so many cruel ways was too distressing to sit down and read it all. I have read sections of it at different times and will continue to do so periodically. I always wonder if I would have the courage to face such horrific death as so many of these martyrs did.
Painful and terrible history of the horrific suffering of early Christian martyrs. Some Christians today think they suffer for the faith if they have any difficulty, but the martyrs in this book break your heart. These people have earned the right to sit near the Throne.
