Making pizza at home has never been more creative until I bought this book!! First of all, I really enjoyed how unconventional this book really is. It is not like any other cookbook I have read before. The fact that I can pick my own crust, sauce and toppings is great because sometimes I don't want to eat the same thing over and over again, and I know the kids love the endless possibilities. They enjoy using the rising pizza dough crust, while I experiment with the healthier ones and play around with different sauces and toppings. My daughter made a taco style or the suggested Mexican style pizza the other day and swore she was in love. I think I fell in love with the Muffaletta Style Pizza!!I would recommend this cookbook to anyone who enjoys eating and making homemade pizzas, even without a pizza peel or stone. The book gives instructions on how to use the oven. It is in incredible!! Why hasn't something like this been published sooner.

"Pizza Stone Recipe Cookbook" is a good recipe book with useful tips. I like how the author starts off with important tips from the beginning. One of those tips is to make sure you get the right size stone for your oven. This is better than going to the store and guessing what size works for your oven. Tips like this save time and money. I learned a ton about how to make a pizza from home. I appreciate the author's tone throughout the book. I have never read a cookbook with the light humor and entertainment factor. I enjoyed the book so much more because of that. Let's face it, pizza is enough of a reason to like this book but the author adds personality to it which made me smile quite a bit. This is my favorite pizza book and I didn't even realize that cookbooks could be so entertaining! The only thing that I would change about this book is to include more pictures of the pizza.

I never knew I could have a pizza stone of my own like all the ma and pop pizza shops. This book walks you through not only what to cook on a pizza stone but how to maintain it so you can keep those delicious pizzas coming to your dinner table. The most surprising part of this cookbook was how easy it was to read (also very funny too!) Unlike most cookbooks, this one doesn’t assume you don’t religiously watch the food network. Mr. Luigi goes through all the different social uses for pizza (Also how the pizza stone can be awesome baking other kinds of bread) and he shows how healthy pizza can be!Big win for someone like me who is trying to lose some weight!There are some out of this world pizza recipes in here (carrot chili paste sauce on a pizza?) but each one is worth checking out. The only drawback I had was lack of pictures of the finished product. Sounds silly I know. I’m just a visual guy. 4 out of 5 stars for me!

I borrowed the book before this from the library for my preschool class and fell in love. When I looked for it on amazon, I could only find the second book; this one! It has stunning pictures just like the first one. The culture is so beautiful, I'm excited to share it with the little ones!

From Mary Wallace comes a unique picture book. Through its simple text and rich illustrations, An Inuksuk Means Welcome provides a sense of the traditions and customs of Inuit life in the Arctic. Yet does it provide enough?Built by the Inuit peoples, Inuksuk are stone piles, often in the shape of humans with outstretched arms. Why would the Inuit have built Inukskuk? For thousands of years, the Inuit didn’t built permanent settlements, but instead hunted and fished in the Canadian arctic. These sculptures served as their means of communication, to mark where to find food or shelter. The traditional meaning of the inukshuk is “Someone was here.” or “You are on the right path”.As you can see then, the Inuskuk is a central image to the Inuit culture. In Wallace’s picture book, it frames her text as an acrostic. For each letter of Inuskuk, she presents an English word followed by the Inuktitut letters, along with a phonetic pronunciation guide for the second. Extra informational text features include an introductory note about the significance of Inuskuk in Inuit culture and a nonfiction page that profiles seven different types.Alphabet books are a comfortable way to present information. In the case of An Inuksuk Means Welcome, they can serve a dual audience. For those within the Inuit culture, the warm landscape textures serve as a tribute to a traditional way of life. For those outside of the Inuit culture, Wallace engages readers with the text with her expansive paintings and by the inclusion of tiny inuksuit, which creates a hide-and-seek element, into the pages.However, in contrast to other informational picture books such as those by Jerry Pallotta, An Inuksuk Means Welcome feels barren. A reviewer for Canadian Review of Materials contends that more text is needed to round out the overview of Arctic life and suggests, for example, that the descriptions of the seven types of inuksuit might have been more useful if they had been included with their explanations in the body of the text where appropriate. I side with the reviewer, leaving me to feel that An Inuksuk Means Welcome is best used only as a starting point. As such, it’s a text that adults might make better use of their young people. She’s also an award-winning artists, who has spent almost twenty years teaching arts and crafts at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts. During her trip, she met survivors and forged strong friendships with some. Through these friendships, Lebowitz learned of the upcoming trial of Oskar Groening, a 94-year-old former SS agent. He was to stand trial in Germany for aiding and abetting the murder of 300,000 Jewish people at Auschwitz. Lebowitz knew she wanted to watch the trial firsthand. Through boldness and determination, she achieved her goal and sat in the courtroom for the first week of the trial and blogged about her experience. The eyewitness account reveals the complexity of her emotions—she wanted Groening convicted swiftly yet was moved by the frailty of the elderly man. However, her introspection, comprising much of the story, is rather dryly written. Alternatively, the verbatim testimony of both Holocaust survivors and Groening are truly gut-wrenching. The fact that with each passing year, fewer and fewer survivors are alive to tell their stories makes this account important. Thanks to NetGalley and Second Story Press for the opportunity to read and review To Look a Nazi in the Eye by Kathy Kacer with Jordana Lebowitz. The prologue tells of the Nazi soldier, Oskar Groening, being guilty of persecution by aiding and abetting at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. The now ninety-four year old soldier has been brought to court for justice to be served. Before the prologue, a brief description of statistics states the small number of Auschwitz guards that actually faced justice, it's astoundingly appalling. Jordana attends a Jewish Day school and she travels with schoolmates to tour concentration camps. Jordana's impressive efforts created a temporary Holocaust exhibit showing other genocides around the world and comparing them to what took place during the Holocaust. I appreciate her idea of bringing to light other genocides as well, to teach and hopefully prevent more atrocities. Jordana continues to spread the knowledge of the Holocaust and advocates for human rights. The author, Kathy Kacer, learned about the Holocaust from her parents who were both survivors of the persecution. 5 stars for this example of strength and perseverance in the midst of awfulness.*I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary consideration.

Books like this are hard to review due to their nature & the fact that they are true stories, so even my blog review will be short. For now I want to say that To Look A Nazi in the Eye is a wonderfully written book that eloquently tells Jordana's incredible story. This book is an education & is something that should be available in all school libraries. This book made me cry a lot but I am very glad I read it - this is a book that I will recommend to everyone; I am honoured that I have been allowed to read it before it's release.Disclaimer: I was sent an eARC in return for an honest review.

Content Warnings: Several survivors talk in detail about their time at Auschwitz throughout the bookImagine hearing about a trial two weeks away taking place on a different continent and saying, "I am going to get in that courtroom one way or another." That is exactly what Jordana Lebowitz did. When she heard about a former Auschwitz worker set to go on trial in Lunenburg, Germany decades after the Holocaust ended, she was immediately ready to drop everything and travel from Toronto to Lunenburg to witness this historical trial.Going into this book, I had not heard of Oskar Groening or this trial, so it was interesting to learn about it, especially through the eyes of someone my age who is Jewish and therefore affected by the outcome. It's wild to think I was in a German language class while this was happening and yet I was oblivious to it the whole time. Either way, I'm glad I got to hear about the Groening trial and learn about its significance in this book.As described in the book, people may wonder why German courts decided to bring Groening to the stand some 70 years after his crimes took place.  The reasoning for many involved was to prove that it does not matter how much time has passed, you are still accountable for your wrongdoings. Jordana explains this and goes further to point out that this is the justice that the Jewish community deserves to see even though it came later than desired. That message extends past the Holocaust to any type of crime and sets a precedent that this type of discrimination and abusive mistreatment will not be tolerated in future generations. Now knowing about this trial, I am extremely grateful that it happened.I really admire Jordana's passion and drive to work with people to bring social justice to the world. She has found her cause and continues even today to achieve the many goals she sets for herself, and I think this makes her a great role model for the target audience of this book. Heck, she's even the type of person I aspire to be.On NetGalley, this book was categorized under Teens & YA, which I agree with because of the themes, but I do believe the audience can even be younger in some cases. The style of writing is simple and to the point, making it easy for middle-grade readers to follow, but some of the content (mainly the personal stories of what happened at Auschwitz) may be a bit strong for that age group depending on the child.Throughout Jordana's story, she recounts how her prejudices against German culture affected her journey to and attitudes toward the country. On the plane ride there, she met a German man who terrified her at first. Later, however, she made friends with him after learning he was on her side and also realized that the Holocaust was a horrible part of Germany's past that he and his fellow citizens would have to work to correct. Similar encounters happen several times and illustrate an interesting view of prejudices.Final thought: Overall, I loved the story and the information in this book. I wish this trial had been more widely talked about, but at least I had this account of the trial to learn about it. If you're interested in history even the slightest bit, I would suggest putting this on your TBR list.

I'm halfway through it and - as a man - understanding the industry take a lot of the fear out of buying jewelry. In fact, I actually found it to be a lot of fun. For a guy, this book is giving me peace of mind because it does give into the economics and the science of gems (topics that tend to interest men way more than women).

This is a great reference book if all you know about engagement rings is what the four "c's" stand for. The tables were the most helpful references and it is written so you can reference areas you want most to learn about. There is more than enough information, including a lot of history and information on other stones other than diamonds. It even gave me a dollar range to expect, which was the biggest unknown for me.

Very interesting, still reading but have learned a lot of practical advice.

Excellent book. A must for anyone purchasing an engagement or wedding ring.

I purchased this book along with the book Diamond Ring buying guide by Renee Newman. This book only contained B/W diagram drawings and described the 'flaw's that diamonds have. Hello? dianmonds are not B/W diagram drawings, that little dot on the drawing tells me nothing!The book seems to ramble and drone on and on about diamonds, like a good old high school history book. Of all the 14 pages of color photos, there are 6 pages dedicated to 'designer rings' and the rest are just photos of different styles of jewelery. What does a yellow diamond look like? What about a diamond that was cut incorrectly? A simple line drawing does not help at all.I found Newman's book much more detailed and well written than this book. Newman has many photos, practically the entire book is made up of color photos of diamonds and flawed diamonds (so you know that to look for).If you have a lot of time on your hands and don't mind a boring book, then buy this book, other wise Newman has condensed this 300 page book into just a mere 150 pages or so into hers.

And get a cup of coffee. And a high-lighter. And then just let this book do your work for you. Why? Because "Typical Joe" will wander into a nice jewelry store not knowing diddly about diamonds, sporting a deer-in-the-headlights look that serves as an aphrodisiac to the store clerks. The love Typical Joe! With their lush carpets, free coffee, revolving credit and halogen lights that would make a piece of tar light up like Vegas, the stores also provide an "education" about diamonds through brochures published by their trade association. But if you want the REAL skinny -- and not some puff piece that glosses over the important info -- get this book. It holds your hand, feeds your head and keeps your wallet MUCH fatter in the long run. ( I know am I going to get negative marks at the bottom of this review from annoyed jewelers...sorry, folks). I saved thousands of dollars.For instance,I never knew about diamond brokers until I read this book. The appendix helped me find a good one;I saved a lot of money on the ring. I should mention that the purpose of the book is to educate on diamonds, not diminish the importance of a good jeweler (although, after I saw the mark-up on loose stones, I was livid. I'm all for making a profit, but most jewelers just GOUGE you). Point is, by reading this little book, you can learn a good deal of pertinent info and translate that into an immediate savings.Buying an engagement ring, in theory at least, should be a one-time purchase. And no guy wants to mess it up. Get this book, understand the color, clarity, blah blah blah but focus on the CUT. If you understand that, you're miles ahead of Typical Joe. This book is well-organized, well-written and provides all the info you need to get a beautiful diamond from a position of strength.

I recently purchased another book before I found this one, and quickly figured out the author was a diamond dealer trying to get my business. I was about to give up on finding a book that was written by a real expert who was NOT trying to sell me something, and then I found this one. What a treasure, written by someone who is really a consumer advocate, and tells the whole story. After reading Engagement & Wedding Rings, The Definitive Buying Guide For People in Love, I knew I wouldn't make a mistake or get ripped off. This book even told me what to ASK to be sure I was comparing "the same thing" when I went from store to store with my fiance (and even provided a place to write down information given from store to store)as well as what to get in writing. One of the things my fiance liked best, however, was the information on how to protect ourselves and how to find a reliable appraiser to verify what we were told. Personally, I loved the information on how to make our rings more personal and intimate, and the great advice on little design details that make such a difference in the appearance of the ring. We bought the diamond first, and then the ring, and even though the ring wasn't "custom made" , we knew what to ask for, so the jeweler knew what to show us and we found the perfect ring which the jeweler then ordered and engraved especially for us. So few things really affect what you do, but this book really did, and we can't thank the authors enough. I've even written a letter to the authors, to personally thank them (and that's something I've never done before). One thing was clear from the start: these authors not only know their stuff, but they really care about their readers making the best possible choice on this important decision. And without trying to sell us something!
