A little over a week ago, a friend told me about this book. I bought it on Amazon, and was astounded and profoundly disappointed by what I have read.The author wrote of offering a 3 CD set that contained further annotations, as well as photographic and documented evidence to back up his research.The author's link, bowstring.net shows his books and CDs, but when you click on "Buy Now", you get a prompt that says "No active store for this vendor".The friend who recommended this book to me, has also tried to find the CDs, and was able to get the author's phone number, but it only rings...no one answers.Do any of you own these CDs, and are you willing to sell me copies, or place them on a DVD for me?The review by Robert David Steele says it all. His review is definitive and the only thing I can add to it, is to ask the reader "You read in the papers how we actively prosecute 90 year old NAZI clerks"? This book will CLEARLY EXPLAIN why it is that we NEVER seek out Japanese War Criminals. And why the survivors of the March to Bataan, and why the Korean "comfort" women will never be recompensed for their pain!

There are several non fictional books describing the travesty of the terror the people of Asia went through during the early 1900's, this book explains in very explicit detail about the plunderings and the later findings and the additional blood shed and how it has kept all the souls on this planet captive even as of today...... it is a must read, Stearling and Peggy Seagrave gave it their all, and the biographies and annotations explain as footnotes to authenticate each page. The corruption is mind boggling and you will find putting the book down after reading about the blood shed only to re group before you continue to keep reading, if you are enthralled with the history of the money and politics and current players of corruption, I would suggest you read Defrauding America by Rodney Stich, this too is a very well documented book. For those who want to follow the money I would suggest googling on the internet "Financial Tyranny" by David Wilcock, this is not a book for publication but made available free on the internet as a PDF.

This is the best history lesson I've ever read. Provides an explanation of the power and reach of America's media/military/industry led by our CIA. These 2, $trillion dollar funds now at work thru-out American society undermining the failed great experiment of democratic government. Read Madsen's "Almost Classified Guide to CIA Proprietaries, Front Companies, and Contractors". Very very depressing.

This book is well written. It is completely documented and gives instructions in the back of the book on how to order copies of newspaper clippings and research notes and records stored on various digital devices for your review and confirmation of the facts. The Seagraves have done an excellent job of taking the reader through that period of history and moves through the events as if the reader was there. From Japan's systematic theft of financial wealth, gold, art treasures and antiquities of the countries throughout Southeast Asia to the United States' complicit cover-up of the recovery of this wealth, the reader walks away with a sadness in knowing that the leadership of the United States had no sense of justice or moral turpitude by its failing to return the stolen goods to the countries of origin and their citizens.

I am a little turn with this book... I found it to be well written but I also found the author to be one-sided. He'd not even consider other views on the age of the earth. I tend to agree with most of what he said, but he came across as very closed minded towards any differing opinions. At the end of the day, I believe us Christians shouldn't let non essentials separate us. As long as we agree that God created the heavens and the earth, who cares how old the earth is?

Read this for a graduate history class, excellent read. I appreciate how the book explored little discussed ramifications of the Civil War, presented an intriguing topic of the War besides the basic military history.

This book is a great look at the role of pornography in Civil War camps. It shows that pornography played a complex role in camp life and then into life after the end of the war. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about an unique aspect of life during the Civil War.

Enlightening and informative, a must read for any history buff wanting to learn about the unknown history of our nation.

This short book is an interesting read, but I think it falls a little short of a full discussion of the subject. It's an academic study, although quite readable. It looks at some aspects of sex in the Union army, but its main topic is really how laws meant to protect soldiers from suspect materials led to the rise of Anthony Comstock and his long reign as self-appointed czar of American purity.Giesberg says her book is interested in the Civil War origins of a "federal conversation" about sex and its regulation. The conversation came to included using the power of the post office to restrict access to information about birth control and abortion. The key chapter is #3, on Anthony Comstock's Civil War. Turns out his stories about being in combat were fake, his war being spent in an entirely calm occupation of Jacksonville, Florida.Reader's advisory: There are several illustrations that are inappropriate for children and that might be considered pornographic. People interested in that kind of material won't find much in this book, though.

(p27) There was also sectional prejudice -- “the South was regularly compared to a brothel or harem, furthering the association between sex and violence.” (p28)“Begun in local prosecution and coming of age in the Civil War, American porn came to be associated with the experience of soldiering. … When the war began the domestic trade in porn was well-established and entrepreneurial publishers / dealers were posed to take advantage of the war’s particular circumstances and new technologies and mediums. “In the meantime, yellow-covered literature, obscene circulars, and racy magazines made their way with or to the soldiers and became part of the sexual culture of U.S. Army camps.” (p31-32)CHAPTER 2 considers wartime consumption of porn “and follows the mailbags delivered to the front lines, and through an examination of court-martial records and regimental order books locates erotic materials in camp, explores their circulation, and considers U.S. military policy with regard to erotica. … “This chapter includes a discussion of a wide variety of published works, including popular songs and magazines that were not produced with erotic intent but were reimagined and repurposed in the all-male milieu of the U.S. Army camp.” (p10)CAMP CULTURE. Soldiers did domestic duties once performed back home by women. They used and shared porn, played cards, shared very close quarters, etc. Voyeurism was practiced, especially when any woman – whether wife or prostitute -- was alone with an officer or another soldier. However, rape was prosecuted. Fellow soldiers assessed how well, you ‘fit’ their shared expectations for this masculine setting. If not, you were subjected to pranks and abuse, then further evaluated for how ‘you took it’ or ‘stood up’ for yourself.CHAPTER 3 reconstructs Private Anthony Comstock’s actual military experience using surviving fragments from his private diary and that of fellow CT townsman Justus Silliman, regimental orders, and his authorized biography. Comstock enlisted in local Company H of the 17th CT regiment being replenished after suffering 90% casualties, including his POW and MWIA older brother Samuel, on Barlow’s Knoll at Gettysburg in 1863. (p59) Anthony was posted to occupation duty on the SC sea islands, then to St. Augustine, FL during his 19 month service tour. But these wartime experiences recorded at the end of Comstock’s life by his authorized biographer were essentially A REIMAGINED’ HISTORY.“Obscenity was determined by community expectations and values, but in the mid 19th century ‘pornography’ emerged as a creature of the courts. … Something shifted in the balance between obscenity and decency, private and public, and porn emerged as a distinct governmental concern. … [Porn] was defined in courtrooms as something produced with the intention to corrupt ‘young minds’.” (p62-63)Aspiring to become a ‘gentleman’ officer and assigned as a clerk to the unit’s provost marshal, Private “Comstock refused to participate in the culture of the camp or join with them in sin and wickedness.” (p68) He refused to retaliate for the slights heaped upon him and his property, thereby fostering disrespect and further abuse. “Beyond controlling his temper, the young man also confided in his diary when he struggled to control his sexual urges.” (p69) “He experienced the war as a personal crisis in masculinity.” (p70) “In contrast, 2nd Lt. James Graham of the 8th Ohio Volunteers Regiment seized every opportunity for leisure and expressed no misgivings about how he or others spent it.” (p71)In 1883, “Comstock wrote Traps for the Young – an ambitious attempt to trace the routes of violence in young men to obscene reading materials.” (p78) He offered no explanation or proof of the connection between bad books and violent behavior.” (p79)CHAPTER 4 examines the 1865 and more expansive 1873 postwar anti-porn measures that became better known as the [1873] COMSTOCK LAW and particularly “how pornography, birth control, and abortion came to be associated in a cluster of laws reflecting post [Civil War] concerns about marriage and family.” (p10-11)Several U.S. Congressmen actually sought to assist the Union war effort while news from Sherman’s southern campaign was sporadic and Grant’s campaign appeared stalled at Petersburg, VA. Debate on the 13th Amendment and establishing the Freedman’s Bureau in February 1865 led to the Senate considering a formal definition of slave marriage as part of Senate Resolution 82. “Lawmakers defined ‘sufficient proof’ [of legal marriage] as evidence that [a man] and the woman claimed to be his wife have cohabitated together, or associated as husband and wife,” or “evidence that a form or ceremony marriage … has been entered into or celebrated by them. Married ‘slave’ women’s status was to ne determined by their husband’s status. (p82) This overturned southern states’ legal precedence for slave mothers’ children also being slaves. Consequently, the children of enlisted USCT soldiers and legally emancipated blacks would be freed.Among the duties taken up by agents of [the] new Freedman’s Bureau was an ambitious effort to regularize marriage practices among women and men.” (p83) “Many freedmen were forcibly ‘inducted into the regulatory regime of marriage’ by rigorous enforcement of local antibigamy and antifornication laws.” (p84)The YMCA and its military-focused offshoot the U.S. Christian Commission are actively seeking to save the souls of young American males from the evil temptations of pornography. Several U.S. Congressmen and state legislatures carefully scrutinize the mountainous morass of existing legislated law for finger and toeholds upon which to append new legislation defining and protecting morality. The new Federal and state laws explicitly defined what was pornography and its distribution channels. Porn was to be seized and destroyed. Also prohibited by NY law were perceived threats to the institution of marriage like any “article or medicine for the prevention of conception or procuring an abortion.” (p89) “Doctors took advantage of [the trend for definition] to target a range of unlicensed medical providers … including birth control and abortion services performed by midwives, homeopaths, and others. … Pornography came to be associated in lawmakers’ minds and in state laws with other perceived [societal] ills, such as prostitution, abortion, birth control,” Mormon polygamy practices, miscegenation, and incest. (p90-91) “Anthony Comstock first turned the attention of the YMCA … to the threat of sodomy, adding the performances and publications of NY’s gay community to the long list of obscenities he was authorized to combat.” (p102) “Laws against pornography and those outlawing abortion and contraception lingered well into the 20th century.” (p99)The dominant marketing, sales and distribution channels for erotic pornographic materials flow through the enlarged U.S. Mail system. The New York City region is its epicenter, primary international entry point into America; and site for domestic production. Hands down, IN THE FORBIDDEN CITY by Chiu Kwong-chiu (translated by Ben Wang) is a force to be reckoned with. No where have I come across such a thorough and highly detailed account of the Forbidden City. Serving as the seat of imperial power for over six centuries, the Forbidden City is one of China’s most famous–and engimatic–landmarks.The book is large–and I mean that in size and sheer volume of information revealed. You will walk into the detailed line drawings of the buildings, gardens, courtyards, and more through impressive gate-fold pages with historical and architectual highlights peppered throughout. Whats more–you’ll find a magnafying glass in the back of the book to scrutinize the tiny–and miraculous–details in well, more detail. This is a book you’ll want to spend multiple settings with over the course of time.Part history, part culture, part architectual studies, one will walk away from this book with a better understanding of Chinese traditional culture and design. A must for every well-stocked classroom or library and for many Chinese-American children, big and small.

The amount of detail in this book is absolutely mind-boggling. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to create the pictures. The inclusion of a small magnifying glass was much appreciated as it helped me look at some of the tiny details. This is the sort of book that you could spend hours looking at and still not have found all the information. The text is rather heavy so the book works better for older students, plus the extended pages are awkward for little hands. The information I found fascinating since my knowledge of the Forbidden City and the Ming and Qing dynasties is rather limited. While the book focuses on the city itself, the reader also catches a glimpse into the lives of the Emperors who lived there and how their lives impacted the whole country. The book definitely made me want to go visit the city (now a museum) to see all the amazing sights for myself. A great resource for teachers and parents and a fantastic glimpse at an unusual place full of history and art.

My cousin told me about this book because i was away from home and could not cook any of the delicious Haitian food my mom would make. i mean i was missing- legume with rice.. and so much more. Now i can cook and my black American husband love eating Haitian food. I showed my mom this book and she can cook and there were some meals she hadn't tasted since she was a child. This a good gift to any Haitian or those that are not Haitian and love eating the food.

I have heard that some people may think that $49 dollars is too high, but I've paid higher prices for college textbooks that I did not appreciate as much.I've purchased all three of the Haitian cookbooks that are currently on the market and I love having all three. My mom is an excellent Haitian cook, but I have only recently began my journey at learning the unique style of Haitian cooking. I like to compare some of the technique I've recently learned from my mom, to those included in the book. Also my mom doesn't cook anywhere close to as many recipes as those include in the book. I love my mom's Soup Joumou, but I like that the book has other options.It's worth the money- especially since it is so unique.

After a recent trip to Haiti, my daughter and I absolutely fell in love with the country and the cuisine! This cookbook has become a family favorite as it's very complete, easy-to-follow instructions and even includes a lot of cultural information.

this is book was a fine example for haitian cooking there were pictures of the food being presented for some of the meals being prepared so that you can get a hint on how the dish should look like.its in detail about whats to be done next. the only thing i didnt like about it was the price i gotta admit the price is above the average cookbook.but in the end its well worth the dollars spent.

Wonderful Book! I am a Haitian American and the book gave so many wonderful recipes! Many new things to try! My Haitian husband, who was born in Haiti has loved all the meals I have prepared with these recipes! I know some people said their book was falling apart, mines has been perfectly fine.

I got this for my daughter, so I didn't make any of the recipes, but she was thrilled to receive it!

I returned the book , i don't even use it, from $45.50 she only give $22 back the book is not good . I don't recommend her .

Next to the original SB Diet book (blue), this is the best one. It actually has many Phase 1 and 2 recipes that the average person would want to eat, diet or no diet. In my "Non-Diet" recipe book, I have four recipes from this book that I regularly use, not for diet maintenance, but because they taste so good and are easy to make. Good cook book ... the best in the SB Diet cookbook collection.

I got this used like new and it came in MINT condition for just over $9 and free prime shipping. This is for the hard cover book, it is larger than most books which I like as it is easily accessed from the kitchen counter reader. I tried using the digital editions but found it too cumbersome and had to print out a lot of information wasting ink, thus wasting a lot of money.I highly recommend and do suggest you look at the used like new books, mine looks brand new and saved me over $10.00.I hope this helps, Cheers and Vidimo Se!

"The Southbeach Diet Cookbook" was written to provide a number of recipes to complement the original "The Southbeach Diet" book.The cookbook opens with an overview of the diet program. It describes the diet though not in the detail of the original book. It explains what you need to do to get your fridge and pantry 'southbeach' friendly. It explains what is allowed in terms of diary, meat, oils, pasta, snacks, beverages and more.Next the book has a question/answer session with Dr. Agatston. In this section he updates some of the information from the original book (milk and yogurt are now allowed in phase 1 for example) and he gets into more detailed regarding different types of food.Then comes the core of the book. The recipe categories include breakfasts, appetiziers and snacks, soups, salads, side dishes and accompaniments, fish shellfish and poultry, meats, vegetarian entrees and desserts. Each recipe indicates what phase it is appropriate for and many of the recipes are pictured in mouthwatering photographs!Sample recipes include Vegetable Salad with Feta, Homestyle Green Bean Casserole, Pan Seared Pecan Grouper, Whole Wheat Vegetable Lasagna, and Apple and Almond Souffle. Over 200 recipes.One very nice feature is the inclusion of recipes so you can make many of your own condiments. Unfortunately ketchup, barbeque sauce and many other "toppers" are laden with high fructose corn syrup. So Dr. Agatston includes the details on how you can make your own.Overall the quality of recipes is very good. The one negative I have is the total avoidance of sugar and reliance on sugar substitutes. I would rather use real sugar in moderation than sugar substitutes like aspartame. He has a recipe for strawberries with velvety chocolate dip and suggests you use sugar free chocolate syrup. Instead why not use a high quality cocoa bar and melt it down. This is healthier than the faux sugars like malitol,which are in sugar free products and so much more satisfying.Dr. Agatston has some wonderful recipes in this book from top chefs and restaurants and they are worth buying the book for. But many of the desserts with the fake sugars and fat free sour cream fall flat. Moderation is key. Use the real deal in a tiny quantity like the French do.

I'm a long time (as these things go) south beach dieter: I started in January 2003, lost 30 pounds by July 2003, and have kept it off. I bought this cookbook because of the initial buzz that there would be some really interesting new recipes. Unfortunately, the first two I tried were bombs. The oven roasted chick peas had very little flavor and a really odd texture (maybe I didn't roast long enough? Perhaps, but they still could have used some kick to the flavor.) Based on reviews here, I next tried the salmon in creamy lemon sauce, billed as having a remarkably rich and creamy taste. It was average at best; the sauce was thin and the flavor one-dimensional. At this point, I actually printed out an Amazon lable to send the book back. However, I had tagged one last recipe to try--the oatmeal pancakes. These were dynamite! I had tried some VERY expensive lo-carb pancake mixes that yielded odd little things that tasted like bad synthetic omelets, and had sort of resigned myself to no pancakes. But the oatmeal pancakes recipe here? Beautiful cakes, fabulous flavor, good texture. I made a whole recipe, ate 3, and put the rest in a bag in the frig. Then every morning, I popped some in the toaster oven, where they heated up beautifully. Re-inspired, I went back to the cookbook and made escarole with white beans. Another hit! Tonight I will try the salmon with 5-spice seasoning and lime juice, and see how that is. I think now that I will keep the book, and see what other jewels I can come up with.

Wow this is a diet I can follow and enjoy without being hungry and sacrificing taste. I love to cook an I bought this book along with several other South Beach cookbooks and diet books. The recipes are easy and straight forward and are categorized as Phase 1, Phase 2 or Phase 3.

Great book. It arrived in great/new condition. It has over 200 recipes W/ beautiful color photos. The recipes are simple enough, & I think it'll help keep me from getting bored w/ the diet. Phase 1 is the trickiest.

I have a number of diet cookbooks, but this is one of my absolute favorites that has stood the test of time. The recipes are so delicious that I've served them to guests and had them express surprise that they are healthy. I especially appreciate the chapter on vegetarian entrees as I'm a "flexitarian" who tries to eat meatless several times per week. I've also had success adapting many of the entrees calling for red meat (which I don't eat at home) to use poultry instead.Highly recommended!
