Just a warning on this book if it's a gift- my book came with a giant barcode sticker on the cover that was impossible to take off-cleanly.The book itself is great! Super heroes and villains- everything a little kid would love. Illustrations are nice and stories are great for ages 5+.Added some pics to show barcode sticker, illustrations and table of contents.

My son loved the 5 minute star wars stories, so much so that we bought him this book and the DC version too. We were disappointed that the Marvel one doesn't use much imagination and is pretty violent. I know that's true to the comics but my 3 yr old doesn't need to see Spider-Man beating every villain with a right cross to the jaw or a jump kick to the back of the head.The DC 5 minute storybook, by contrast, includes a bunch of creative (albeit silly) stories where the heroes use their brains to beat the bad guys. There's very little violence.Violence has a place in stories, but I'd prefer to keep it out of stories for young kids who aren't quite mature enough to make good decisions about when to emulate their favorite super heroes.

My boyfriend wanted to introduce our toddler to his love of Marvel comics, so I thought this would be perfect, and when I saw Black Widow on the cover I figured she'd have a story featured inside the book. Sadly this was not the case -- not only is NO woman character featured, but they appeared on barely any pages even in the background AND they had several stories about the same character. Both girls and boys need to see equal representation of both genders in superhero books. I especially don't want my little girl to get the message that only men can be heroic. Marvel has had so many serious issues with failing to represent their female characters on the toy market, and I'm disappointed they are still struggling with this lesson in this day and age. Thank goodness I bought it used. I'm glad I didn't give them any of my hard earned money.

My 4 year old son is very interested in super heroes and this book fits the bill! The stories are a pretty good length and will range from the advertised 5 min to closer to 10 depending on how inquisitive your child is. Mine can't go 2 seconds without asking a question so sometimes these stories take awhile. I've seen some folks complain about the "plot" etc. but my son is 4 and doesn't really need a Hitchcock film....he just wants the good guys to beat the bad guys, and they do. Personally I like that he gets "good" guys and "bad" guys shown to him, yes the world is shades of grey....but he's 4...lets start with "good" and "bad" and go from there. For me the most important thing is he wants these stories read to him, he listens (with frequent interruptions for questions), and he is interested in reading! My biggest complaint is I don't find the artwork to be as good as some of the other children's super hero books I have seen. The art isn't glossy and doesn't really "pop" off the page, kinda bland if you ask me. My son hasn't complained so apparently it doesn't bother him. Yes there is some "violence" in it but it's pretty minor and heavily stylized so I don't have too much of a problem with it. Yes there is fighting, and fighting is "bad", but I also use that as an opportunity to reinforce the difference between real and fantasy to him. Anyway, I feel that folks shouldn't over analyze a children's story, I was brought up with Hansel and Gretel where the witch was going to eat the damn kids!!!! Even though this beautiful oversize hardcover 188 page full color illustrated pages (5-Minute Marvel Stories) book is aimed at children; nevertheless, if you are into graphic novels or short stories about super heroes this is a book even some adults might enjoy. The full color illustrations really make the short stories come alive.The book is organized into 12 stories and includes the following: The Amazing Spider-man: Keep away from Kraven the Hunter, Spider-man vs. Sandman, Spider-man vs. the sinister six, Peter Parker’s pictures, the uncanny X-Men: the X-men’s first mission, The mighty Thor: a brother’s battle, the Iron Man’s new armor, surprise attack, The mighty Avengers: Captain America Returns, Hawkeye and the mighty Avengers, The incredible Hulk: Desert Brawl, and the courageous Captain America: The lethal lair of red skull.I found this to be a fun book to read and it reminded me of the comic books I used to read when I was a young boy. My four year old son loves this book, and I think it will remain age appropriate for a few more years. They have taken the standard superhero stories here and made then simpler and more appropriate for young kids. We like that there are a large number of different stories with a lot of different superheroes. There is a lot of text, but it is broken up nicely with illustrations. Overall, a favorite of ours. The only issue is that it has inspired my son to want superhero themed toys and sheets and everything else!

I was very happy with the quality of this book, as were both parents of the boy I got it for! It’s put together well and I was happy with the illistrations. The parents said their 4 year old girl and 3 year old boy both love this book! Especially for $10, definitely recommend!!!

This, like all of the 5 minute stories series, was a great find for a 5 year old. He can listen through a chapter book but is too old for board books. So these are a great middle ground for bedtime. They are all pretty cute and stay true to the spirit of Christmas (Santa Clause, etc.). He really enjoyed the stories with his favorite characters. And suffered through the princess ones although I think he enjoyed them more than he'd admit.

WARNING: this is advanced book. You must be experienced (actually, very experienced) with use case approach to read this book. Use cases are not even defined. This book is about advanced methodology of using use cases developed by the author.What is wrong with this? Actually, misleading title. I purchased this book looking for introduction to use cases. Wrong choice

"Succeeding with Use Cases - Working Smart to Deliver Quality" walks you through four quality engineering disciplines: quality function deployment, software reliability engineering, model based specification and use case configuration management. Most of the book is readable by project managers, while model based specification (pre conditions, post conditions and invariants) is of special interest to developers and testers.As you can guess, the book assumes you already know about use cases. For the most part, the authors are good about going into detail without making any further assumptions of your background. Examples include concrete numbers and the diagrams are excellent. Once chapter does get theoretical and use algebra, but it is immediately followed by a practical application.Personally, I found the reasoning and walkthrough of the ROI example to be most valuable. The book does read like a short textbook and academics are explicitly mentioned as one of the target audiences. However, you can tell the book is written by someone who has been through it personally. Overall, I found the book to be a valuable read.

I was really happy to see Richard's new book. I have always thought that if you are going to go to the effort of writing good use cases, then you should make use of that information as much as possible in the project. This book has a prominant place on my professional bookshelf, and I refer to it often.Richard Denney gives some great information on using your project use cases in project management, quality control, and reliability. He has a wealth of experience that he shares throughout the book. His book is well written and easy to understand. I am not aware of any other book that covers this information in the context of a software project.Once you are comfortable with writing use cases (and of course I must recommend my own book Applying Use Cases: A Practical Guide for that purpose), then definitely start exploring what you can do with the use cases once they are written by getting a copy of Richard Denney's book, Succeeding With Use Cases: Working Smart to Deliver Quality.

When I first picked up this book, my initial reaction was "Great, just what the world needs, yet another book about use cases." Then I noticed the subtitle, Working Smart to Deliver Quality, and thought I should invest a few minutes looking it over. I'm glad that I did. Perusing the table of contents, I noticed sections entitled "Planning the Length of Iterations and Number of Use Cases in Distributed Software Development", "Setting a Failure Intensity Objective", and "Savings from Avoiding Cost of Unnecessary Development" and realized that this was more than just another use case book. Denney provides real world advice, based on his more than 25 years of experience in software development, for how to apply use cases effectively in practice. For anyone wanting to improve their use case writing skills, his insights on preconditions, postconditions, and invariants is well worth the investment in this book. For project managers, Denney's advice for estimating and scheduling based on use cases is both practical and insightful.

I'm a software engineer, specializing in requirements and software quality. I've known about QFD and the House of Quality for over a decade, and I've been using Use Case methodology for years. This is the first (and perhaps the only) book which combines the two methodologies and explains in a straightforward yet sufficiently detailed way how to use these methodologies. If you are struggling with many requests from multiple customers and are trying to identify what is really important, you should read this book. In particular, if you want to satisfy the customers who drive your business, i.e., generate revenue, you need to read this book. This is a low-tech approach; all you need is a spreadsheet. Understanding Use Cases, QFD, or House of Quality is not a prerequisite. Even if you are already familiar with these methodologies, I think you will still learn a lot from this excellent book.

Over the Labor Day weekend, I had a few hours to connect with my daughter and grandson. Precious time in any parents world. I gave my grandson this book as a gift. My daughter's email reaction said it best as a mother.."Dad, thank you so much for this math book! We started reading it when we got home. I like the way Danica breaks things down and makes it easier to understand math better than I had to learn it". My grandson's first grade class is studying everything in this book, making the concepts of addition and subtraction easier to grasp.As in the past, I will be buying all her other books as he advances. Yes, she is that good! Buy this book, buy all her math books and don't regret it. A strong background in math is a good thing to have for any child.

This is my third math book by Danica that I have bought for my granddaughter. She has loved each one. This one is very helpful to me as well since it helps me understand common core--which I know nothing about! Highly recommend!

Wow! As a third grade teacher I can honestly say this book is amazing! It is EXACTLY how I teach addition and subtraction to my third graders but Danica makes it visually appealing with fun pictures, cute stories, and games that help practice the skills. A must have for parents, teachers, and kiddos. Especially if you are a parent looking to understand the new math or have a kiddo that just doesn't seem to be understanding addition and subtraction. I plan to use it with my math tutoring groups from beginning to end. I truly hope Danica writes more because I would love one about multiplication and division to use with my learners (and my own child!)

I purchased this book to help break down common core teaching methods so that I can help my kids with their homework - and just in general, understand how they're expected to do math these days. The visual methods I associate with common core are so different from the way I was taught that I was at a loss when my daughter would ask for help. Within days of receiving the book, my daughter (2nd grade) asked for help on a math question - I thought I knew what it was asking but was unfamiliar with the terminology, so I pulled out my new math reference and within minutes was able to explain the process. My daughter was happy to be able to do the next problem on her own without help. I see this book as an invaluable resource for parents who, like myself, are unfamiliar with current methods of teaching math. My daughter is attracted to the pictures in the book but we have to read through it together to ensure understanding.

I was taught math back in the 70's and this new stuff was blowing my mind. I ordered this book to get some "new" basics down (new verbiage, concepts, etc). I have never been more pleasantly surprised and elated in my life. I am able to read this even while my husband watches TV. It is engaging, enlightening and very educational. I plan on sharing this with my grandson when I get finished. I look forward to more McKellar Math books!

What a fun book for our 8 year old granddaughter. Lots of fun activities and creative ways to look at all the concepts she is currently learning.

Great help to those who don't know the new way and practice for the little who are learning.

My grand-daughter loves this book! She is going into1st grade in Sept and wants to learn. I found the manipulatives I used with her mom when she was young (some of us are hands on learners; ) and she uses them to visualize. I bought her a purple binder and looseleaf paper to keep a book of her progress. Great!
