If you are reading this review, you probably already know that this book is an outstanding text on statistical mechanics. It is advanced, thorough, thought provoking, and will make you a pro once you manage to go through the whole thing.That said, you must be aware that the book being sold as new is a mediocre digital reprint that roughly amounts to a laser printing of the scanned originals, in a poor paper with faint typography that tires the eyes and a pathetic white cover in a feeble (magazine-like) paper. It looks like you have printed it in your shabby deskjet...So, if you can buy a used copy of the original edition, do it. Do not bother to buy this digitally reprinted book because its quality, durability, etc. really suck.

An interesting approach to statistical mechanics. Deep in places, but not especially mathematically rigorous. Lots of food for thought.

One of the best books about statistical mechanics ever written. The style, typical of Chinese high society, consists of very straightforward statements, followed by a neat logical explanation. Statistical mechanics is a difficult subject. This is to my advise the best book to study it from.The target audience of this book are graduate students with basic physics knowledge. Easy to read, yet extremely rigorous.I put 4 stars as the quality of the printing is well below expectations.

This is a useful book but not a great book. I don't' think there isn't a single picture that covers how factory accessories should be hooked up. I don't think any of the sample engines in the back are based off a stock 400 block and only 2 are 455's all the rest are aftermarket blocks. There is very little information about using parts from other cars to make performance everything in this book is about buying something expensive aftermarket.I did learn a lot but I also have a whole list of things that should have been included in both of Rocky's books that were missing.Would I buy the book again? Yes but not at full price, if I didn't have to.

I really want to know how to improve my iron heads because I need to use my limited money wisely, It skips along quickly through the iron heads and goes deep into aluminum heads. I am told the older version by Jim Hand contains the coveted chapter on porting d-port heads and don't understand why something of such importance would be left out. The book is a good read though and is very informative, just not for somebody like me who is on a budget. Rocky's other Pontiac rebuild book I think was better for my budget concerns. (I bought that one a year ealier

Great book with lots of useful information. Be aware, however, that this book is true to its name, meaning that it focuses mainly on super burly performance builds, and not so much the everyday street or street/performance type of builds.

Nothing, but a 144 page of advertising. Haven't read Jim Hands book, but I'm sure it's better. Don't waste your money. Just go butler performance, Kaufman racing, and wallace racing for history.

Great insight and some info that even I wasn't in aware of. Great pics and info on upgraded parts.

Unlike similar material, and to his credit, Galian retains Sufism's Islamic character in his focus on the historical and spiritual sources of Sufism itself, the titular Ahl al-Bayt. Galian, a widely traveled seeker, is an initiate of authentic traditional Sufism, and does not shy away from Sufism's essential orientation. For the uninitiated, one couldn't possibly find a better place to begin the path of Islamic mysticism than Galian's seminal work.

I bought thus book looking forward to learning the balance of ideas on the Ahl ul Bayt through the understanding of the Prophetic Hadith that he left for the community 2 sources of guidance-the Quran & the ahl ul bayt. However, this is a greatly disappointing work, going through ideas from different spiritual paths, interspersed with the hatred of Shiites for the Companions of the Prophet. In typical fashion, anything that falls away from the correct Islamic doctrinal balance becomes a mixed bag weakening its own argument. For instance, how can someone preach peace with hatred for part of God's creation? On the other Hand, how can a person with a standard curse a companion as great as Hazrat Umar, yet narrate traditions from him that support a different part of the argument? It doesn't make sense, even if particular traditions are taken from source law, since historical accounts always show some variance with the general picture, but the holistic essence is what remains convincing.The author should have decided what he was writing about instead of putting all the ingredients in and letting the reader make sense of it. He should have chosen to write either about the real ahl ul bayt (& they were far superior to what any partisan Islamic group would say about them), or the Shiite historical perspective, or mixed ideas on spirituality from different sources, or a book of quotations. Unfortunately he mixed all of these together as a representation of Ahl ul bayt secrets.This book is definitely not worth the time or the money. We are lucky we live in times where the works of those who knew the narrowness & straight nature of the true path , which is at once the beauty & the strength of Islam, are becoming increasingly available for the eager seeker. For authentic information on ahl ul bayt, pick up a Mostafa Badhawi translation of the Haddad books or the new book, endless nobility of the Ahl ul bayt by Nabhan.

No matter what level of "awareness" you're experiencing, the "here-now" or the "here-after" of the present moment within your in-time, this book will literally blow your heart open, and therein take you on a journey of self-discovery.Its not a atypical Sufi outlook, but rather a detailed enhancement of the "reality" one perceives in the levels of comprehension. In a strange way it reminds me of Douglas Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid;" except rather than dealing with music, mathematics, etc, it deals with spiritual / mystical / / philosophical / religious symbiosis.This book came into my life in an interesting way. It was during Ramadan (the month when Muslims fast during the daylight hours). I was to meet with a freind and visit a mosque. We never hooked up. I found myself at Sufi Books in New York City. By coincidence (HA! HA!) Lawrence Galian was holding a book signing for the release of The Sun at Midnight. I hung out and spoke with the author. I was impressed with him personally. Then he read for the audience selections from his book. I was astonished. It spoke directly to my soul. I purchased a copy from him on the spot, and we'd remained freinds since.The copies I bought from amazon.com were gifts to freinds.

I've found this book to be full of wizdom and contains intensive but easy to follow exercises to train the body & soul in order to reach purity. I would highly recommend it to the seekers of the original Sufi mystic ways.

in terms of spirituality, this is a very well-rounded book which sort of innoculates one against the stupid or naive notions or ideas/ideals of spirituality caused by some new-age books or writings, especially in terms of the good/evil , day/night sort of thing where people nowadays spirituality is all roses and bunnies and a perfect master cannot get angry or whatever.but, it is also too big, with some unnecessary and cumbersome parts, and it also contains some very heretical ideas (ex1: defence of yezidi devil worshippers and telling one to be more dark than white in spirituality to balance the world out, ex2: some very heretical notions sometimes espoused by extreme shiites than even shiites find heretical) and some outright lies and misleading at some points.all in all one should be careful when reading this book but its probably worth a read. i particulary liked the writings on the ahlul bayt.
