"New Mexico's Finest" Peace Officers Killed in the Line of duty 1847-2010 (Fourth Edition), by author, Don Bullis is a superbly interesting compilation of short "thumbnail sketches" of the events responsible for the deaths of nearly 200 law enforcement men and women who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. The book is further enhanced with a photograph of most of those individuals.I was drawn to this book because I was privileged enough to have known and worked with the son of one of these fallen officers numerous years ago. "The Land of Enchantment" is not... "So enchanted" when you realize the complexity of the various cultures and the areas in which they live.Perhaps, the most shocking pattern of all of these events (at least for me), was the sad but, undeniable fact most of those killers were later granted much reduced sentences due to either; politics, poor prosecutorial case development, lenient judges, seemingly confused or, apathetic jurors, and ... sometimes just plain ..."luck" for the criminal.This book is different from Bullis' "Novel" "Bloodville". It is however, a good book to keep on the shelf none the less. "New Mexico's Finest" is a great historical reference tool, and study guide for new officers who may want to learn from the tragic events of others so that they...don't become a statistic on the memorial wall as well."Pro Bono Publico"

Violence is not a rare thing in Lincoln County where I live and peace officers have been killed by others on several occasions, perhaps the most famous being when Billy the Kid killed Bell and Olinger during his escape from the Lincoln County jail in 1881. I found this book at Ft. Stanton Live where Don Bullis was selling his books. I became drawn to it when it contained information on the killing of at the chief deputy sheriff from a long-time Lincoln County family in 1933. Don covered that incident with fairness and accuracy. Moving on through the book he presents a fitting tribute to all New Mexico peace officers killed in the line of duty either by intent or through an accident. Where possible, a photograph or drawing is included for each officer as is a bibliography. It is a researcher's delight. Now in its fourth edition, it was a finalist in New Mexico Book Awards.

Others have mentioned a repetitive plot, and it's true. The first book in this trilogy sets up an interesting premise - augmented reality via "brainocytes," a nanotechnology that maps and uses dormant portions of the normal human brain - but then the first-person narrative occupies itself with car chase after car chase, and Dr. Evil after Dr. Evil - most of them related to the main character in some way, for some reason. When, in the third book, the author blithely ignores the likely hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide that occur, because dammit, the wife and son are safe! ... I went from neutral to thumbs down on the book. Definitely a "department of redundancy department" series.

Enjoyed the character development but plot became repetitive and I wasn’t able to get through the third book.

I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this trilogy but the third went in very ethically dubious directions. The main female character drove me bonkers with her self righteous, judgemental, manipulative behaviour and the whole group became prime examples of elitist pseudo intellectualism running amok. Yes they often had altruistic motives but when your decisions affect the whole world, it's time to, at the very least, widen your pool of advisers.

Thought provoking and a futuristic look at what technology may soon become. The characters are real and emotionally draining. I've laughed, shouted, cried and feel as if I lived through them. My hats off to Dima Zales for showing me what happiness could feel like, once again!

The story is fun and entertaining for those of us who like science fiction, suspense and action. However, more enjoyable are the many possibilities that the book shows about our future with the artificial enhancement of our minds.

I am normally a romance reader, but every once in a while I venture out of my “norm” and try something different. I have read another trilogy from Dima Zales before and I enjoyed it a lot, so I wanted to try this one as well.I am on the second book now, but I wanted to leave my review now for the combined trilogy and I will update once I finished.Book is well written, characters developed very well and story is so so interesting to me. I love all the futuristic stuff in it, it intrigues me so much to see how our future could/might be. Dima is excellent in describing all these details and it keeps me glued to the book.All the technical parts/ programming stuff he explains well, so I am able to follow. I truly enjoy this book and I am ready to finish and se what he will do with the storyline. What is going to happen on the end. I think books are excellently written and I highly recommend them if you enjoy futuristic /sci-if stories.

These books are fantastic. They really build on one another and the Neural Web is a programmers dream. The ideas that come out of this are highly creative. It was fast paced action scenes with complex theories. I enjoyed the story and it was refreshing to hear new real world ideas about what we could see in the future of programming even though this is fiction. Dima Zales has thought up a world of real world issues in a fantasy mind construct that I want to be a part of. Fantastic Read,

Even though I wonder how the main character, Mike, manages to repeatedly survive the absolute hell he does make it through, I truly enjoyed this series. This trilogy is set in the near future and could easily be today's America. The Brainocytes nano-tech concept is very interesting and could be in our future. Basically it asks the question, "What would happen if nanites could be introduced into the brain and then connected to the internet and other computers?" It's a fascinating concept and much of the reason the books drew me in so quickly. There were a few areas that stretched things a bit too far, such as Mike's survival against odds that would kill anyone else and Alan's intellect at 4 physical years old. Other than that, the Human++ series is a pleasant read and a nice break from reality. I would like to read other books in this world, maybe from other's viewpoints.

I'm happy with the way Essie's secret being revealed was handled even though I wanted to seriously kick Cassius's ass those first few chapters. It seemed Essie's secret even got revealed to herself. I'm glad she and Gideon finally got a moment. Now she has to get things worked out with Kol. Then there's Sebastian. I wonder if he'll be a part of the harem or if het get his own love interest. I sure hope Amiah gets someone for herself soon because can't be hers.I'm wondering if Essie's birth mother is tied to those witches or if dealing with her will be something even worse than dealing with a goddess and her twitchy followers. It sure seems like Essie's birth mother will definitely be a problem soon. So glad the next book is out next month.

I really liked her book but I am tired of the author making the main character look so pathetic ! It really ruins the whole entire book especially since she is suppose to be a badass and strong.Spoilers:Like when she is on the roof top and Victoria the vampire attack’s her ... what does she do NOTHING ! She can’t fight her, can’t call on her power allows the vampire to bite her. The worst part is that she is suppose to be this super powerful supernatural and not only that but has years of experience being a cop and what does she do nothing !It really frustrated me because I thought finally she is going to be able to save herself but no she has to be the damsel and have her guys come save her.I really hope the author turns this around and allows more charter development on the main character and actually holds true to how she is trying to portray her.

I have really enjoyed each book in the series and luckily the author does not take too long to send out new books in the series. I am happy the harem is starting to come to a completion. But there is one maybe two characters that I am wondering will be included in the harem, in the next book. Also, Essie's back story is somewhat revealed and it was unexpected. Books must be read in order. Enjoy!

This book have me almost everything I hoped for and it was worth the few weeks I had to wait. I'm a bit disappointed about Kol and what Esther really is but otherwise perfection

There is something compelling about this series (even though I don’t particularly enjoy the reverse harem trope). However, the pacing of this latest instalment was arduous. Essie spends the entire novel dithering even when faced with nihilistic, all-powerful, suicide bomber witches - which was problematic on so very many levels.It’s a common problem in multiple forms of media that creators just keep escalating. The villains get more and more psychotic and their reasons for killing become ever more specious, and the heroes just keep getting more and more powerful, but there is no foundational rhyme or reason behind any of it. The only reason Essie couldn’t deal with the central problem of this novel, as she becomes even more powerful, is because she is busy crying about it. Boo-hoo, the witches are scary. Boo-hoo, the vampires are mean. Boo-hoo, the demon is sad. 80% of the way through the novel and Essie is still having a sob-fest rather than dealing with any of the issues presented, but at 95% she shakes off her clinical depression and, without any useful transition from the cliffhanger of the last novel, is inexplicably able to manage her new powers to save the day - no training required.Why were the genocidal witches killing everyone they could? They decided, out of the blue one day, to take up the mantle of the war from 20 years ago. Why? No reason. I guess maybe their book club didn’t have a great discussion one week, so why not restart a genocide?

I was thinking of buying another copy as I was given the journal version as a gift. I love it. I am shallow compared to Mr. Chambers, but his words are inspiring and encouraging for Christians like me, who accepted Jesus late in life. I am pretty hard on books and have written a lot in the one I have so am thinking of buying another.

As a former member of a men’s ministry in Virginia. One of the men Elder Maurice whom I look up to always had something exciting to share from this book. Additionally, every time he shared information from this book it spoke to my Spirit and I knew I had to partake from the information I was gleaning. It is one of the reasons why I share so much of what I experience in the reading of this great book on Facebook and with different people to encourage them as it encourages me.In starting each day I try to include this book as part of my morning ritual to inspire me to do great things for the Kingdom of God. Since day one in picking up this book it has inspired me, encouraged me, empowered me, and motivated me to seek God and come to know God on a level I probably would never have strived for on my own. I am very thankful for the relationship which Mr. Oswald Chambers has with God because he shares it on every page, not selfishly keeping it for himself but inviting the reader to partake of the Goodness of the God we serve.

A wonderful classic devotional book. One of the reasons Jan and I like it, is that it was not written by Oswald to be a daily devotional book. After his death, his wife and some students compiled it out of sermons he had delivered during his life. His wife took shorthand, and essentially wrote down everything he said, much like students around the table of Martin Luther used to write down everything he said. Mrs Chambers and friends just took those notes and put together a daily devotional, never expecting that it would become one of the most favored in the last and subsequent centuries.

I first read this book when I attended an undergraduate college that lifted up living in an intentional Christian community. While the lessons were impactful and relevant thru appeared a bit distant from me. Now that I have more than doubled the age when I graduated college and am daily humbled in the manner this book hits me right between the eyes of my thoughts and my spirit.

Besides the Bible, there is no book that I love more than My Utmost for His Highest. It is not like your usual daily devotionals. This book is rich in the content of the Word of God, taking even snippets and phrases and digging deep into the recesses of the Character of Christ and allowing us as readers (and Christians) to not look for personal affirmation in the pages but to look for our sin sickness and immediately reach out to God, our Healer, to be 'made over' and understand that God intends for us to give every single drop of who we are to Him to use for His glory! The book will cut you, rebuke you, chastise you, question you, and make you focus -- not on trying to be "good" but trying to obey God and be able to truly create a love relationship, a one-on-one intimacy of holiness that only comes from loving the true and living God. I have bought some for others and will continue to do so. My favorite page that got me hooked, was March 24th. I dare you to read it and, if you know God, you will either see yourself or someone you know and love in the last line of that page.

Love it! I compared pages and it's just a little clearer in today's English with no loss of Mr. Chambers' depth, perception and strong guidance.

Oswald Chambers provides deep interpretations of Christian guidance from the Bible. No sugar-coating here. Best devotion book I've ever read and I'm 68. He is clear in his directives of how to become more Christ-like. I have much more to do to give up worldliness I have accepted as "okay". He has challenged me beyond my comfort zone but his teaching is Biblical. I am no fanatic. I want to please God and serve Him. But my eyes have been opened to my selfish nature, my creature comforts, my consumerism. I need to grow in my desire for simplicity, generosity, humbleness, meekness - and focus on changing myself way ahead of changing others.

If you are in a relationship with the Lord, and you tend to place time with Him after other things in you day-day living, this daily devotional will challenge you to reassess your priorities and to put God first.The level of discourse is definitely for the maturing Christian who is seriously seeking to become one with The Lord.

I've always loved this book so bought this edited version for each of the women in my Bible Study. I still love the book but do like the original version better. I had trouble finding the original work so settled for the 'updated language' copy. I was in a time pinch and gave up before finding what I really wanted. Still a powerful tool, easy reading, provocative thought, and inspirational!
